Champion Hurdle pretender Blue Bajan is set to make his reappearance over timber at Ascot on Saturday.

Andy Turnell's gelding, who rounded off a successful first full season over hurdles with victory in the Swinton Hurdle, will begin the long road to Cheltenham in the £80,000 "Bet Live" @williamhill.co.uk Handicap Hurdle.

"He'll run, all being well. He seems to be at his best on good ground," said the Wiltshire trainer. "He's summered well. I suppose he'll be better for the run but he's in good form and he's had a good prep on the whole.

"He might have a crack at another good handicap, but I'd like to think he'd be up to Champion Hurdle standard.

"His first try at that sort of level would, I think, be the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, but it all depends on what happens and what the ground is like.

"At the moment we might as well have a go at some of these handicaps. They are worth a lot of money.

"If for some reason he couldn't run on Saturday, I'd put him in the big handicap (Greatwood) at Cheltenham."
