Big freeze set to continue
The British Horseracing Authority will delay a decision on whether to try to save the Tolworth Hurdle because of the dreadful weather forecast for the coming week.
The Grade One event was due to be staged at Sandown on Saturday but the big freeze claimed it's third National Hunt victim of the day.
And although the race could be staged at a later date, the BHA will not rush a decision with the cold snap set to continue for the foreseeable future.
"We will look to save the Tolworth, but we are not going to make any decisions until Monday at the earliest because the weather forecast is so poor at the moment," said British Horseracing Authority PR manager Paul Struthers.
"The forecast is so bad that there is a possibility of losing all jump racing for a substantial period, maybe a week to week and a half.
"We may not even have a decision on the Tolworth on Monday. We want to leave it as late as possible and move it to a course that has a chance of racing.
"We have pulled in the evening meetings on the all-weather for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to the afternoons just in case there is no jump racing."
