Fakenham's afternoon meeting on Monday has been given the green light after the track passed an early morning inspection.

A milder spell of weather meant the course had suitably thawed out in time.

Clerk of the course David Hunter said: "We had evening temperatures of as low as six degrees but temperatures were up to nine degrees yesterday.

"The forecast is for more mild weather today but with strong winds and persistent rain due to start any time now.

"The ground is still good to soft, good on the back straight but obviously we will assess that as the day continues."

Folkestone's Tuesday fixture will be subject to a 7.30am inspection although officials are confident racing will take place.

Parts of the course remain frozen but with temperatures set to rise there should be no problems.

"It's a case of simply being safe rather than sorry. We are very hopeful that the frost will come out of the ground," said clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie-Ross.

"The hurdles course is almost entirely raceable, but there are still some areas of the chase course that are frozen.

"Temperatures are up at about eight degrees. We've got some light rain with us now but temperatures due to remain around eight overnight with a similar forecast tomorrow."
