Sunday afternoon's race meeting at Market Rasen has been abandoned due to parts of the track being waterlogged.

The Lincolnshire course had 8.5 millimetres of rain overnight and officials had to inspect the track early on Sunday morning to see the extent of the damage.

With standing water remaining on parts of the turf, clerk of the course Nick Patton had no option but to call off Sunday's action.

"Unfortunately we have had to abandon as we have waterlogged patches at

numerous places around the course," said Patton.

"We also had quite destructive winds with a number of wings on the fences

having blown down as well.

"It's bitterly disappointing again and that is why we are looking at another drainage project in the summer time."

Sunday's racing over in Ireland has also been affected by the weather, with Cork also suffering from waterlogging and losing their card, while Fairyhouse als went because of snow.

The Irish Turf Club's press officer Cliff Noone said: "Cork have had to abandon their meeting as the track is unraceable. They had rain all night so the track is waterlogged."

"Fairyhouse has gone as they have had a good bit of snow and the track is covered.

"There is a chance that they might reschedule for next week but we will just

have to see."

Meanwhile, Monday's meeting at Lingfield will have to pass an inspection in order to be given the go-ahead.
