Killyglen staked his claim for a place on Howard Johnson's list of likely Cheltenham Festival contenders with a stylish win at Ayr on Sunday.

The seven-year-old took the victorchandler.com Robert Burns 250th Anniversary Novices' Chase under Denis O'Regan at the hastily arranged meeting.

Previously trained by Roy Wilson in Larne, Northern Ireland, Killyglen's successes so far have come at Ayr, and Carlisle, when partnered by Richard McGrath, and another at Downpatrick.

Owner David McCammon said: "Richard told us that we would win a couple over hurdles and a couple over fences with him and he would then go on and win us a big one.

"The plan is to go for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham."

Donald McCain completed a double with his only two runners at the meeting, both ridden by stable jockey Jason Maguire.

Comhla Ri Coig claimed the Victor Chandler 08000 787 878 "National Hunt" Novices' Hurdle by seven lengths from the Johnson-trained Teenage Idol.

And Cromwell Court won the Victor Chandler Financials Homecoming 2009 Novices' Chase.
