Oasis Dancer: Good draw
Ralph Beckett is looking forward to saddling Oasis Dancer and Mahadee in the totesport Mile at Goodwood on Friday.
The former bounced back from a disappointing effort in the Irish 2,000 Guineas at Newbury last time out, while Mahadee makes his debut for the trainer after being bought out of Clive Brittain's yard.
He's got a good draw (19) and he's in good nick," the Whitsbury handler said of Oasis Dancer.
"He should run well. Whether he's good enough we will find out on Friday. He's a nice horse. He's got the right draw so we're on the right leg."
Of Mahadee he said: "We don't know much about this horse yet. He runs well in the headgear and he should run well. Whether he's good enough to win is a different thing entirely.
"We got him at the July Sales, so we've not had him long at all. We're looking forward to winning a nice pot with him. Whether it's this one or not only time will tell."
Richard Fahey believes the step back up to a mile will suit Irish Heartbeat but his draw in stall four has done him no favours.
"He's got a desperate draw. That is not where I wanted to be at all," said the North Yorkshire trainer.
"He steps back up to a mile having run in the Scottish Stewards' Cup last time and I think that might suit him."
The Richard Hannon-trained Vitznau has his third crack at this valuable handicap, having finished sixth in 2008 but only 18th last year.
"He ran a terrific race to finish sixth from a bad draw two years ago, but he is again drawn towards the outside (stall seven) and while he ran well at Epsom last time, it will be tough from out there" he said.
"However, the fact that they have put eight millimetres of water on the round course will help as he would not want it too firm."
