Mark Johnston's Sea Lord made virtually every yard of the running to land the Totesport Mile at Goodwood on Friday.

The northern raider has proved a real money-spinner for connections and made it five wins from seven outings this season with a typically gutsy effort under Royston Ffrench.

The 6-1 chance was still at the head of affairs two furlongs out with his rivals struggling in behind, but Frankie Dettori got a perfect run up the inside on Invisible Man (8-1) to throw down a challenge.

The Italian appeared to plenty going for him but the Royal Hunt Cup winner found less than expected under pressure as Sea Lord pulled out more to win going away again at the end, winning by threequarters of a length.

The pair were clear of the remainder with Webbow (12-1) three and a half lengths further back and Proponent (20-1) in fourth.

"Really this horse should be out of handicaps and we did look at the Listed race, for which he's declared, on Saturday," said Johnston.

"But the lure of the prize-money persuaded us to go for this.

"It's a big ask for him to run again tomorrow, but if he comes out of this particularly well, it's still a possibility. We've got a bit of thinking to do."
