Caledonia Lady (10-1) got the better of tight finish with Confessional to win the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown Park.

The winner struggled to get a clear run on the far rail under Hayley Turner and had her passage blocked on a couple of occasions but a gap finally opened well inside the final furlong.

She surged through only to be tackled immediately on the outside by the runner-up but just got the verdict in a photo finish as they flashed across the line.

Free Zone raced up with the pace and kept on well for third with Spirit Quartz back in fourth.

Memorable

Trainer Jo Hughes said: "I've only been training for 12 months and she has given me my first Listed winner last year and now my first Group race.

"She's a really good filly, she didn't have the run of the race in the King's Stand at Ascot but was closing at the end.

"She goes on every ground and finishes well. There's a race at the Curragh we might go for next, and she's best at five furlongs."
