Born To Sea is set to have his first attempt over a mile and a quarter in the Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh on August 12.

The half-brother to Sea The Stars, the champion three-year-old of 2009, has yet to hit those kind of heights but he has taken on the best this season.

After failing to make the frame in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas, he stuck to a mile for the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and was fourth to Most Improved before stepping straight up to a mile and a half for the Irish Derby.

Best Yet

He put up probably his best performance in the Curragh Classic to take second place, two lengths behind Camelot.

"The Royal Whip is where we intend to go. He's bouncing out of his races. He's got a bit of his brother's (Sea The Stars) constitution, the way he takes his racing really well," trainer John Oxx told At The Races.

"He eats up and is always the same from day to day. He's improving from race to race also.

"We'd like to give him another race to see how he's going and this will be his first race at a mile and a quarter, which might be his best trip."
