David Marnane is hopeful Jamesie will soon collect the major handicap his consistency deserves following another fine performance in defeat in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood.

Second in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot before finishing sixth in Newmarket's Bunbury Cup, the four-year-old was perhaps a little unlucky not to finish closer than sixth on his latest appearance, beaten less than two lengths by Hawkeyethenoo.

He is likely to stay at home in Ireland for his next start, before a potential rematch with his Goodwood conqueror in the Ayr Gold Cup.

"He's come back in great nick. He had a good trip over a good trip home and he has taken it all remarkably well actually," said Marnane.

"He ran a very good race and I think he will have learned a lot from it. It's a fast six furlongs at Goodwood and it was all quite different for him.

"He got stopped in his run and I don't think it made the difference between winning and losing, but I do think he would probably have finished third.

"We'll aim for the September Handicap on Champion Stakes day at Leopardstown next. That's over seven furlongs and should suit him well.

"After that we'll probably have a crack at the Ayr Gold Cup if he gets in and the ground isn't too testing."
