Connections of Telescope are in no rush to decide whether their exciting Newmarket maiden winner will shoot for Group One glory in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

Unfortunate not to make a winning debut at Ascot early last month, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained juvenile opened his account with a most impressive performance at Headquarters on Thursday.

The son of Galileo is a best priced 16-1 for next year's Derby.

Harry Herbert, racing manager for owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, will leave Stoute to decide whether the youngster will run again as a juvenile.

He said: "He has come out of the race really well and is in very good shape, but there has been no decision on whether he will run again this season.

Long-Term Future

"If he does run again then it will probably be in the Racing Post Trophy, but Sir Michael just wants to see how he is and he will advise us what is best for the long-term future of the horse.

"He is a horse with a lot of size and scope and he still has some growing and furnishing to do. It is really all about next year with him."

Telescope can be backed at 20-1 for the 2000 Guineas, but it seems unlikely he will return to the Rowley Mile for next season's opening Classic.

"I think it's highly unlikely he'd be a horse for the Guineas," said Herbert.

"He has the make and shape and the pedigree of a Derby prospect, so we could go for a Derby trial and go from there.

"Hopefully he can become a worthy candidate for the Derby, that would be fantastic."
