Fisichella: experience

Giancarlo Fisichella is waiting for word from Renault regarding his future, but says he has no intention of retiring from Formula One regardless of the team's decision.

The Italian, who has had a relatively disappointing 2007 season and currently lies eighth in the drivers' championship with 21 points, has yet to be confirmed by Renault for next year.

On his way?

With rookie team-mate Heikki Kovalainen coming good as the season has progressed, it has been suggested that Fisichella could be on his way to make room for the returning Fernando Alonso.

However, despite the speculation, the 34-year-old remains confident of holding onto his race seat next season.

"I am on stand by, as requested from Renault. I would be very happy to stay. I have done a good job - the best given the circumstances," he told Renault's official website.

Announcement

The Italian says he's hoping for an announcement "soon" as he "would like to be able to start getting excited about testing the new car with no electronics. It will be a new challenge!"

However, should Renault opt not to keep him for another season - which will see the banning of electronic driver aids such as traction control - Fisichella will instead look for a new team as he has no intension of quitting F1.

"No way!" he said when asked if retirement was an option. "I am as physically fit as a young boy - and I have the experience."
