Barrichello: fillip

Honda are ready to switch attentions towards the development of their 2009 car, despite the current Formula One season being less than half completed.

The Brackley-based outfit have struggled to keep up with the midfield pack thus far and currently lie a disappointing eighth in the Constructors' Championship.

Honda received a fillip when Rubens Barrichello briefly led during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix but the team have nevertheless decided to concentrate their efforts on next season after the latest - and last - developments for the RA108 are introduced, starting at next month's British Grand Prix.

"There are just two or three things we are doing with this year's car, so there will be a phased introduction of (new parts) that will start at Silverstone," Honda team principal Ross Brawn told autosport.com.

"It is just a question of making the bits now. The concept work has been done on these new areas and they are being detailed and manufactured at the moment."

Honda's F1 CEO Nick Fry says the team's mediocre performances this season left them with little option but to focus on next year's car.

He added: "What we need to be able to do to beat Ferrari and McLaren on a good day and it is clear we are not going to do that this year."
