Alonso: No announcement pending
Fernando Alonso has denied claims he is set to announce his future plans at next weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
The double World Champion's whereabouts for the 2009 season and beyond are currently one of the hot topics in the F1 paddock.
Many predict that the Spaniard, unhappy with his poor showings this season, will once again leave Renault at the end of 2008.
Honda have expressed an interest in securing Alonso's services, with team principal Ross Brawn even prepared to consider a one-year deal should an opening at Ferrari emerge in the longer term.
However, Alonso's future will remain a mystery for a while longer at least as he has admitted he has yet to reach a decision.
"No," Alonso told autosport.com when asked if a Monza announcement was pending. "Soon I will decide what I do next year, but there is not a fixed day."
Alonso also denied reports that he had discussed his future with Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo after the two were spotted in conversation at last week's Monza test.
"I was in my helmet and going into the car so we spoke for five seconds," Alonso added. "How are you? OK. How are you? OK. And nothing more!"
