Hamilton: Bad day
Lewis Hamilton says he is ready to move on after finishing a disappointing 12th in the Japanese Grand Prix.
The McLaren Mercedes driver made a slow start from pole position and ran wide at the first corner trying to re-take the lead from Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Pushed down to sixth place, Hamilton then fell to the back of the field after a collision with Championship rival Felipe Massa on lap two of the 67-lap race.
Ferrari driver Massa finished eighth on track but was later moved up a place after Sebastien Bourdais received a 25-second penalty for colliding with the Brazilian.
The result of Sunday's race means that Hamilton now leads Massa by five points with next weekend's Chinese Grand Prix and the Brazilian Grand Prix still to come.
"What can I say, it was a bad day," Hamilton conceded. "I'll move on to next week."
Hamilton was handed a drive-through penalty for his botched pass on Raikkonen, while Massa received the same for colliding with the McLaren.
Of the incidents, Hamilton added: "I went wide at turn one and it was a mistake then Felipe hit me off. I went inside and he broke me left pretty hard. I went back into the pit and we both got a penalty.
"We both got the same penalty, but I didn't hit anyone and he (Massa) did. I guess that's just the name of the game.
"You can always look back and wish you'd done something differently.
"I made a mistake and I paid for it. That sort of thing happens, you've just got to keep your head up and keep going."
