Alonso: Battle won
Renault have secured fourth place in the Constructors' Championship after the points finishes earned by Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet in the Chinese Grand Prix.
Alonso, who scored back-to-back victories for the team in Singapore and Japan, finished fourth in Shanghai, while Piquet backed up his fine fourth place at Fuji with an eighth-place finish.
The six points Renault scored therefore took them on to 72 for the season, 20 points clear of nearest rivals Toyota.
"We have now won the battle for fourth place in the Constructors' Championship, which was our objective, and so we can approach the Brazilian Grand Prix with confidence and aim to make the most of this final race of the year," Alonso said.
Team boss Flavio Briatore was also happy with Renault's achievement, which comes following a late-season surge in form.
He added: "We were able to show our true level of performance and that we are stronger than BMW and very close to Ferrari.
"Our result means we have secured fourth place in the Constructors' Championship and confirmed our recent progress."
