Button and Hamilton: Team-mates?
Formula One world champion Jenson Button has agreed terms on a three-year deal with McLaren, according to reports in the British press.
Button's future at Brawn GP looks bleak after the team was taken over by Mercedes, and the German manufacturer are thought to want an all-German line-up next season.
Even if they have downplayed that theory, Button's wage demands as world champion may be too much for Mercedes to match, and a move to McLaren seems to be on the cards.
Button was given a guided tour of the McLaren factory last Friday, and the 29-year-old is now reported to have agreed on a deal worth around £6 million a year to join Lewis Hamilton in an all-English driver line-up.
There has been no immediate comment from the Woking-based team or the driver's management.
McLaren would be delighted to not only have the last two world champions in their team, but also two English drivers, although there were some doubts about whether the two men would be able to race together.
The team has very much been built around Hamilton and the way both men react to having another world champion in the ranks would be the key to any move.

Darren how can you say the only reason he won the championship was because of Mclaren, Ferrari & Red Bull didnt have good engines!!!! That is the whole point he did they didnt the same reason as why anyone wins if they have a good reliable car they will have a good chance of winning!!! Rubens had the same car and engine and he didnt win so whats your point!!!! Jenson deserved to win and has always been a good driver he just never had the car to show it until now.

A great move from McLaren sponsorship wise they will make a fortune off this pairing. Button will be alright against Hamilton because of the increased fuel loads next season his smooth driving style will preserve his tyres for longer whereas Hamilton may suffer as his aggressive style will wear the tyre quicker

I think this is a good more for all concerned, MaClaren look like they will have the best car at the start of next year so jenson would of been struggling to hold his own, Now he has another top car to drive i think it is exactly what hamilton needs, A competitive partner, I see MaClaren winning both the Drivers and constructors championships next season..

Jenson, you should of stayed at Brawn as they are now the "Works Team" and will have the better engines added to what is already the best chassis. You also need to remember that Lewis was faster than you towards the end of the season in an inferior car.Follow your brain, not you wallet.

If its true that jenson has joined mclaren it will be a huge mistake because he will always play second fiddle to hamilton because we all know mclaren are team hamilton.

Hi I was so happy to hear that Button has joint Mclaren, that we have two world champion in the same team i cant wait for 2010 season to start , am so happy to hear this.

If this is true I feel that it would be a mistake on the part of both Mclaren and Jenson. The McLaren has been built & tested around the driving style and capabilities of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Buttons driving style is totally different and therefore would not suit a car of the style of the McLaren.

I think this is a bad move for Mclaren! I honestly dont think the 2 English drivers can work together especially if they have to work under team orders! Do you think Hamiltion or Button will be happy or allow themselves to be taking over by another team mate i honestly dont think they will. Plus I think jenson button is 1 of the most over rated drivers in formula 1 the only reason he won the championship was because of 2 reasons Mclaren & Ferrari didnt have there engines right for the start of the season and the other reason was team red bull couldnt build a reliable enough engine for Vittel! If those 2 issues where sorted at the start of the season we would of been looking at different world champion. Plus Hamiltion is in a different league compared to button

Cannot believe it, what a dream team, going to be so interesting to see and watch 2 British drivers, 2 world champions and in a British team what more could you ask for!!!!!

This would be a dream team. Two British Drivers, British Team, what else could one ask for. With Alonso now a Ferrari driver, there will be some pretty agressive driving in order for him and Ferrari to beat Hamilton and Mclaren and who else to support the team? The current World champion, bring on the mind games... This reflects back to the days of Prost and Senna. What a great season 2010 will be with Button and Hamilton or should it be HUTTON or Bamilton?

i think that'll be a good idea, two british drivers in the same team but my only problem for button would be that the mclaren team has been built around lewis hamilton and would button want to play second fiddle to lewis?

This is brilliant news for British motorsport and F1 if it comes off. We will get chance to see who truly is the best British driver at the moment and with their totally different driving styles it will make for very interesting viewing. Let's just hope that the world's greatest ever motor racing team (McLaren obviously) can get their car sorted before the start of the season this time! So next year it could be England v Germany, how fantastic is that? Bring it on!!!

I dont think Jenson has made the right move....The team is built around Hamilton and i just hope Jenson does not have to suffer the same fate as Alonso....Button is talented and i guess he should have not compromised his status for salary !

Button joining McLaren for next season is a brilliant thing. I think as of Lewis and Alonso's battles at mclaren two seasons ago, i think button and hamilton will work greatly together just as lewis was good with heikki
