Button: A wanted man
McLaren have confirmed talks with world champion Jenson Button are ongoing, despite reports claiming a deal has already been done.
McLaren are looking to complete an all-British line-up for next season, with Button set to team up with 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Button has been heavily linked to a move to McLaren since securing his maiden Formula One title - with his talks over a new deal a Brawn GP having stalled.
The takeover of Brawn by Mercedes-Benz has only increased speculation over Button's future - with the new owners believed to want an all-German driving team for 2010.
According to reports in the Guardian, Button has already agreed a three-year deal worth £18million having been shown around McLaren's Woking headquarters by team principal Martin Whitmarsh.
However McLaren have claimed reports of a deal being agreed are a little premature.
A McLaren spokesperson said: "The situation is that we've got no comment at the moment.
"There's been a lot said on it already and there's nothing I can say over and above what is out there."
Speculation has been mounting that Mercedes want Nick Heidfeld to join fellow German driver Nico Rosberg at Brawn - which will be rebranded as Mercedes Grand Prix from 2010.
However Ross Brawn, who will remain as team principal, has claimed talks with Button to remain at Brackley are continuing.
Brawn told The Independent: "Negotiations [with Button] are continuing and the reports that he has already agreed terms with McLaren are not helpful.
"I would be amazed if that were the case.
"His best future is with our team, where he has a good group around him, and there's a lot to be said for that.
"The logical thing would be for him to stay with us, but of course logic doesn't always prevail."
