Michael Schumacher has been in early talks with Mercedes GP over a possible comeback to Formula One next season, according to reports in the British press.
The seven-time World Champion was set for a brief return with Ferrari during this year's Championship before a neck injury put paid to his plans. But that doesn't mean he's out for good.
Schumacher still works for Ferrari, but Brawn's takeover by German car giants Mercedes could persuade him to return in a car other than his former scarlet Ferrari.
Schumacher's former mentor Ross Brawn is also at the helm and the combination of him and a new German team could be just the mix Schumacher would relish.
Jenson Button has left to join McLaren leaving a big hole in the new Mercedes outfit, and team officials are thought to want an all-German driver line-up with Nico Rosberg linked as a possible candidate.
According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Schumacher has already been sounded out about making a return to the sport, although his fitness and condition of his injured neck would be a huge concern.
Schumacher had rubbished any talk of a return before last year's serious injury to Felipe Massa left the Italians short of a driver, and it is thought the German's attempts to stand-in have reignited his desire to get back behind the wheel.

Not getting in the race car and doing a few laps in practice severly restricts Michael's ability to give any real useful information to Ferrari, and seeing him during this years race of champions makes me believe that the neck injury is now not a problem, so this scenario has definate possibilitys and the longer Mercedes leave naming their drivers adds to the speculation. But are Mercedes prepared to spend that kind of money, Michael is likely to come with a hefty price tag

Yes Schumi has made comments he wants to return but Scott you being so ignorant comparing hamilton to a great like Schumi, Just wondering were you born yesterday? Schumi is a natural racer, hamilton is another villeneuve, came into the best car, Schumi won 2 championships before FERRARI and 1 of those was with a mediocore Benneton, give Vettel the same equiptment as hamilton and Vettel would lap hamilton. hamilton right place right time, not a great remember that. great drivers scrap their way to the top, Button is better than hamilton, but even last year Button had the equiptment, Also another thing i want to point out to all these idiots before you even start, Schumi won the 1996 spanish grand prix in a mediocre FERRARI, that is because he puts imput into the designers and engineers and tells them what could be done to make the car faster. hamilton does not do that, not as smart as Schumi

Micheal should stay with Ferrari and mercedes should opt for kimi because kimi is the only driver who can challenge Alonso and lewis for the Championship. Nico is who?

Could be a very good season if he returns, although i doubt it. He retired on top and there is nothing to say he will be champion again. Hamilton v Schumacher ?? What about Jenson ? or the other highly qualified drivers ? Jenson will finish the higher of the 2 mclaran driver next season.

I think the keywords here are "according to reports in the British press". Everybody apart from the media seem to know his blood is that of a Tifosi. Goodnight everybody, nothing to see here.

It would simply be amazing. Imagine if Pele and Maradona returned to football nowadays, and would be able to play close to the current physical level? That would be fun wouldn't it? I say this because Schumi is a true legend, who I've supported throughout his while career, and to see him back would not only increase the popularity of sport, but would probably make F1 more spectacular and intriguing.

The two are irrelevant. The championship will be won by the best driver on the grid for the last years.....Alonso, he's in a different class.

Hamilton vs Schumacher? Yes please! However I think as a Schumacher fan, he went out of the sport at the very top of his game and his last race in Brazil was simply amazing as Schumacher always was. Lets wait and see, but I thinks he's better off letting the young guns battle it out.

I think this is speculation again, after saying he would return for ferrari then the neck injury hindering his return, i cant see how he can get any more fit before the new season. Although i with any other Formula One fan would relish the return of him coming back, Hamilton vs Schumahcer anyone ?
