Kubica: lost the car
World championship contender Robert Kubica labelled the British Grand Prix a "crazy race" after falling victim to the wet conditions at Silverstone on Sunday.
After qualifying 10th on the grid, the BMW Sauber driver rose steadily through the pack as those around him hit trouble as at times heavy rain fell on the Northamptonshire circuit.
The Polish driver rose to third place prior to his second pit stop, but shortly thereafter he was out, his car aquaplaning on the approach to the Abbey chicane.
"I was already aquaplaning for many laps and unfortunately in a straight line I just lost the car completely and went off," Kubica said.
"Here in Silverstone, it was a crazy race in difficult conditions.
"Everything was running well as I was having quite a good race and gaining positions. But when it rained and there was a lot of water on the track, I was struggling.
"I couldn't keep the car in a straight line, was losing power, the rear wheels were losing contact with the tarmac and that was it."
Despite his failure to score, Kubica remains just two points off the pace in the Drivers' Championship after Ferrari's Felipe Massa finished 13th.
Kubica nevertheless now finds himself behind Kimi Raikkonen and Silverstone race winner Lewis Hamilton, who have drawn level with Massa at the top of the standings.
