Davidson makes it to Q2

Anthony Davidson (GBR) Super Aguri SA07, Bahrain F1 Grand Prix, Sakhir, 13-15th, April, 2007

Super Aguri's Anthony Davidson was left buzzing after making it through to Q2 and securing 13th on the grid for Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

The Briton easily made it through to the second qualifying session and in the end only missed out on the top-ten shootout by less than two tenths of a second - Davidson also outpacing team-mate Takuma Sato for the first time.

All-in-all the Englishman was delighted with his SA07 and was also pleased to have not only got the better of Sato.

Furthermore, Davidson ended the day as the best-placed Honda on the grid, having also beat 'A' team drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button, who will line up 15th and 16th respectively on the grid, the latter one place ahead of Sato.

"It was a very good qualifying session and I enjoyed it immensely," reflected Davidson. "I managed to get through to Q2 and that's been our aim from the start of the year, so to do that, and to also beat my team-mate, was a really good achievement for me.

"I'm really happy. The car balance we achieved in the morning for the long runs was also good, so I am pretty confident I will have a strong race tomorrow."

Super Aguri sporting director Graham Taylor said that he was impressed with Davidson's performance and noted that he had extracted the best out of the car.

"Anthony sailed through in to Q2 and we knew that it was going to be tight to get through to Q3, but we were up for the challenge," he said. "He had a very good lap time on his first run in Q2, was very happy with the balance, didn't touch the car whatsoever and went for it at the last possible moment.

"We were absolutely the last car to challenge for Q3 with three seconds to go on the clock. The wind had picked up a little bit and that changed the balance of the car slightly, and we failed to improve. But all-in-all it was another fantastic qualifying session for us."
