Vainikolo: Charged
England and Gloucester winger Lesley Vainikolo has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following an incident outside a nightclub.
The 29-year-old dual code international was held by police after an incident in Bath in the early hours of 26th October. A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with head injuries following the incident.
However Vainikolo, who has been capped five times by England, has denied any wrongdoing.
His solicitor Richard Mallett said: "I can confirm that Lesley Vainikolo attended Bath police station this morning and has been charged with an allegation of GBH in relation to an incident that took place on 26th October, 2008.
"Vainikolo vigorously denies the allegation or any wrongdoing and as demonstrated this season remains completely focused on his rugby and will not allow this matter to distract him from his immediate rugby commitments to both club and country."
Vainikolo will now appear at Bath Magistrates' Court on 2nd January.
