Kubica: support
Robert Kubica wants "100 percent support" from BMW Sauber after scoring both his and the team's maiden victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Pole capitalised on the retirements of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen to lead home team-mate Nick Heidfeld in a one-two finish for the Swiss-German team.
The "fantastic" victory moves the 23-year-old four points clear of Hamilton and Felipe Massa atop the Drivers' Championship and means that BMW Sauber have achieved their stated aim for the 2008 season after just seven rounds.
It also came on the same track where Kubica escaped serious injury following a massive crash 12 months ago - his car hitting a wall head-on at 185mph after clipping Jarno Trulli's Toyota.
"Winning in Canada where I had big shunt last season and the goal to win a grand prix this season," he said after taking the chequered flag.
"We have done it and I'm leading the Championship, so I hope the team will give me 100 percent support to defend it until the last race.
"It is fantastic to win for BMW Sauber.
"We grew up together and thanks to team for providing a good car we managed to do first and second."
However, Kubica also admitted that his appearance atop the drivers' standings might be a fleeting one, adding: "Maybe our pace is still not the best as I couldn't match Lewis's pace.
"It's fantastic for me, the team, my country and my fans. "
