European champions Wasps have invested in their future by bringing in 19-year-old prop Charlie Beech.

"I am really excited about joining Wasps, it's a great time to become part of the academy and the squad as a whole especially on the back of winning the Heineken Cup."
Charlie Beech Quotes of the week

After relative rookie Tom French gave an outstanding performance at hooker in the Heineken Cup Final, Ian McGeechan has brought in another promising front row from Northampton Saints.

Beech has been capped at England Under 16s, 18s, 19s and 20s level, mixing his no-nonsense scrummaging with an impressive ability to get round the paddock.

The 6ft 2in forward has signed a two-year deal, with McGeechan commenting: "Charlie is a very talented youngster and we are delighted to have him join the Academy set up.

Top-class

"It's a great opportunity for Wasps to develop another top-class player."

Beech joins an ever-growing batch of top young players at Adams Park, including the likes of Danny Cipriani, Tom Rees and Dominic Waldouck, as Wasps attempt to counter Leicester Tigers' spending power by developing top talent.

"I am really excited about joining Wasps, it's a great time to become part of the academy and the squad as a whole especially on the back of winning the Heineken Cup," said the teenager.

"I am most looking forward to working with Craig Dowd and having the chance to scrummage with the likes of Phil Vickery because to have these kinds of opportunities and to work with these kinds of people is what every young prop dreams of.

"I know a few of the Wasps guys already through playing for England and there seems to be a great bunch of lads at the club, I can't wait to be a part of it. There is such a great air of professionalism at Wasps and I am really excited about making the move."
