Habana: Could leave the Bulls
Western Province look set to win the race for Springboks winger Bryan Habana.
Top 14 sides Toulon and Bayonne had been in the mix to sign the former IRB player of the year, while Habana's current side the Bulls had been hoping to retain his services.
However Western Province believe they are now close to completing a deal - with union chairman Patty Kuhn confident that the 27-year-old will move to Cape Town when his contract at Loftus Versfeld expires at the end of October.
A statement on the union's official site read: "WP Rugby today confirmed that negotiations to secure the services of 27-year-old Springbok winger Bryan Habana are on-going.
"A couple of small details are still to be sorted out and an official announcement will be made on completion of the deal."
And Kuhn confirmed to The Star newspaper that a deal was on the table for the 51 times capped Habana.
"We have offered Bryan a two-year contract," Kuhn said. "At the moment, the ball is in Bryan's court.
"There are still some small things to finalise in the contract but it is looking very good."
