Championship outfit Plymouth have emerged as the favourites to sign former Manchester City striker Emile Mpenza.

The Belgian striker, who is a free agent after being released by City in July, is expected to travel to Plymouth on Tuesday to sign the paperwork for a one-year contract with an option for a second year.

Greek club Xhanti Skoda were the favourites to sign the player until Plymouth stepped in.

M'Penza said: "The championship in England is better than the top league in certain countries so, while nothing is done yet, they are the favourites to sign me."
