Skysports.com understands Coventry striker Michael Mifsud is set to join Barnsley on loan.

The Malta international is out of contract at the Ricoh Arena this summer and his future has been the subject of speculation for some time.

Barnsley confirmed their interest in signing Mifsud last week and the Sky Blues accepted their offer, leaving the player to decide if he wanted the move to go ahead.

The 27-year-old is now poised to complete a loan move to Oakwell until the end of the season.

The Tykes are currently just two points above the relegation zone in the Championship after losing their last four matches.

They have scored just one goal in that time and manager Simon Davey will hope Mifsud's firepower can help Barnsley pull clear of trouble.
