Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste has revealed that talks are taking place with Valencia regarding the potential signing of David Villa.

The striker, who scored as Spain thrashed New Zealand on Sunday evening in their opening game of the Confederations Cup, has been linked with Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Cash-strapped Valencia are understood to be prepared to listen to offers for £30million-rated Villa and Real were thought to be in the driving seat to capture the forward.

However, UEFA Champions League, Primera Liga and Copa del Rey winners Barca are hoping to beat their arch-rivals to the 27-year-old's signature, with an understanding that the player is keen to stay in Spain.

Success

Yuste told Radio Catalunya: "The talks (over Villa) are absolutely open.

"Because of the success of our club, many players are interested in coming to Barcelona.

"This is good and I think people have to be aware of it."

Meanwhile, Yuste believes that goalkeeper Victor Valdes is 'very happy' at the Camp Nou.

Valdes future

The shot-stopper's current contract expires next summer and his agent recently announced that an agreement over a new deal was far from certain.

Yuste, though, does not see any reason why Valdes, who has been linked with Manchester United, will leave the Catalans.

"He is very happy at Barca, like everyone else on the payroll," he said.

"So I cannot imagine Victor Valdes playing for a team other than Barca and I hope he continues at Barca."
