Berg: Prefers Hamburg offer
Sweden Under 21 hot-shot Marcus Berg looks set to snub a move to the Premier League in favour of a switch to Hamburg, according to reports in Holland.
The Groningen striker is currently one of the hottest properties in European football following his goalscoring exploits at the European U21 Championships this summer, where he top scored with seven goals.
The 22-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to England with Fulham, Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham all said to be interested.
However, Groningen director Hans Nijland has revealed that they have held talks with Hamburg, adding that the Bundeliga side are Berg's preferred destination.
"Hamburg's interest is very serious," he told Aftonbladet.
"I can confirm that we have had a personal meeting in Germany. Hamburg's interest is very serious.
"I am expecting a call from Hamburg any moment. Hopefully we can have a meeting in Groningen (Wednesday).
"We have discussed the clubs with Marcus and his agent Soren Lerby and have been advised that Hamburg is Marcus' first choice."
The transfer is said to be around the €10million mark but Lerby is unwilling to give anything away.
"We will see," he said. "First the clubs need to agree. Of course this is an interesting possibility. But right now I can't say more than that."
