Fulham have completed the signing of Norwegian international defender Brede Hangeland from Copenhagen.

The player has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Craven Cottage which will see him tied to the club until the summer of 2011.

Hangeland had reportedly attracted interest from Newcastle, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City during the summer, but it is Fulham who have secured a deal which will see the defender link-up with Roy Hodgson for a second time after previously playing under the Cottagers boss at Viking.

The American born centre-back is renowned for his uncompromising approach and Fulham will be hoping that he can add some steel to a backline which has concede 39 goals in just 22 games.

Tremendous signing

"I am delighted to welcome Brede to Fulham and I think he will prove to be a tremendous signing for us," Hodgson told Fulham's official website.

"I am of course very familiar with his ability and am confident that he will help our defensive options, and play an important part in the remaining games of this, and the following seasons."
