Leeds have completed the permanent signing of Argentinean trialist Luciano Becchio.

The striker has been training with the Whites for some time and impressed during friendlies against Shelbourne and Barnet.

He began his career at Boca Juniors and counts Barcelona and Real Mallorca among his former clubs.

He came to Leeds' attention after scoring 28 goals in 50 appearances for Merida in the Spanish second division last season.

The 24-year-old has penned a three-year contract at Elland Road and Gary McAllister is backing him to make a positive impact in English football.

"We were very keen to get him in and he will be a real threat for us," said the Scot.

"He's got a good instinct, he'll be dangerous, and along with Jermaine (Beckford), Enoch (Showunmi), Robert Snodgrass and Andy Robinson, it gives us five offensive players who will also allow us to make little changes in shape."
