Ljungberg: Seattle-bound
Freddie Ljungberg has joined David Beckham Stateside after electing to continue his playing career in the MLS with Seattle Sounders.
The Sweden international has been weighing up his options after leaving financially-stricken West Ham earlier this season and has now plumped for an American adventure.
Seattle are the latest addition to the MLS, the American equivalent of the Premier League, with Ljungberg to figure in the club's 2009 campaign.
The former Arsenal favourite, who in ten years under Arsene Wenger in North London won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, turned down offers from Europe in order to try his hand in America.
"Fortunately, I had many opportunities and offers from around Europe and the rest of the world during the last few months, including Seattle to play in MLS," he said.
"After thoughtful considerations I decided this opportunity with Seattle was the right one for me. Seattle is a great city. I know this part of the world quite well.
"The club itself has such great ambition and the fans over here are very passionate about their team. I am very excited about the potential of the club and cannot wait to start the new season in 2009."
Ljungberg's contract at Seattle is thought to be worth in the region of $20million (£12.8million).
