Marseille have signed Sylvain Wiltord on loan from Rennes for the rest of the season.

The former Arsenal forward has fallen down the pecking order at Rennes this term, making just six appearances for Guy Lacombe's Ligue 1 high-flyers.

Rennes confirmed they will allow the 34-year-old to leave the club and Marseille have landed his signature.

"He can have contact with any club he wants," general manager Pierre Dreossi told Le 10 Sport.

"We met his lawyer a couple of days ago to tell him our decision."

Wiltord has undergone a medical and signed on a six-month deal.

"We have the opportunity to have him for six months," Marseille coach Eric Gerets told reporters.

"We need an experienced player, who will bring something to the dressing room and who has an exemplary mentality."
