Wolves have completed the signing of Serbia international midfielder Nenad Milijas from Red Star Belgrade subject to a work permit.

Skysports.comrevealed at the end of May that the newly promoted side had moved for Milijas, and now they have finalised the deal after he signed a four-year contract at Molineux.

Mick McCarthy's men have paid an undisclosed fee for the 26-year-old, although it is reported in Serbia that the deal is worth in the region of £3million.

Milijas' capture is the first of the summer for Wolves and chief executive Jez Mozey was delighted to have put the finishes touches to the move.

"We're really thrilled to have started our summer recruitment with Nenad Milijas," he told the club's official website.

"Nenad is a star player and an international of some note in what is a very talented Serbian team.

"He scored 16 goals from 30-odd games for Red Star Belgrade last season from central midfield and is also a physical presence who can play in a variety of different positions as well as being left-footed which gives the team more balance.

"He's got plenty of experience but also at 26 years old is in the prime of his career.

"This is a big signing for us and we are absolutely delighted with it."

Competition

Wolves beat a number of clubs to Milijas, with Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Birmingham also strongly linked, and Moxey was pleased they managed to fend off the competition.

"Several other clubs were interested and we've seen documentary evidence to show that," added Moxey.

"We spoke to Red Star and agreed a fee which will remain undisclosed.

"He's always been very positive about joining Wolves which is a great sign.

"When he arrived here and we showed him around the training ground and Molineux he was saying this was where he wanted to be.

"He's a great athlete who passed the medical with flying colours. We then negotiated the contract which was straight-forward.

"He's also a real leader, a captain-type, and the all-round signs are extremely positive.

"We've been looking very closely across Europe for the last year.

"As a club we've never been afraid to bring in foreign players and Nenad fits this bill of a very talented one at that."
