Ipswich have signed defender Troy Brown on a one-year deal after he impressed both Jim Magilton and his successor Roy Keane.

The Wales Under 19 international caught the eye while first on trial under former Town boss Magilton and was swiftly offered a contract.

However the 18-year-old had to go through the assessment process all over again following the Northern Irishman's sacking.

Fortunately for the former Fulham youngster, who was released before the end of last season, new Tractor Boys chief Keane saw enough in a reserve team game to offer Brown terms.

"I suppose it's a bit different, having to impress two managers to get a contract here but I'm delighted," Brown told the club's official website.

"Jim Magilton offered me a deal after I had been at Ipswich a couple of weeks and then the new manager came in and I played in the reserves against Leyton Orient and it went okay.

"The manager has said that I will get a chance to show what I can do this season and I'm looking forward to the opportunity."

Point to prove

Brown admits that it was hard to take when Fulham told him they were not renewing his contract but he is determined to prove them wrong in the long-run.

"I was disappointed when Fulham let me go. I had been there since I was seven and I still love the club but I want to prove them wrong and this is a chance for me to do that," he added.

"My aim is to break into the first-team here. I know that it is not going to be easy but that has to be the target and if I do that, it will improve my chances of extending my contract here."
