Striker Boubacar Sanogo has completed his move to St Etienne from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

The Ivory Coast international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Les Verts after coming through a medical with the Ligue 1 side.

Sanogo has been signed as a replacement for Bafetimbi Gomis, who left the French side last month to sign for Rhone-Alps rivals Lyon.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The Stephanois board have landed a major blow - they have signed for three seasons the Ivorian international striker from Werder Bremen Boubacar Sanogo, who has made a reputation for himself in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League.

"Aged 26, Sanogo has all the qualities of the modern striker, quick and powerful."

Sanogo played under current St Etienne coach Alain Perrin in 2004 when both were at United Arab Emirates side Al Ain.

St Etienne have lost both of their opening matches of the new Ligue 1 campaign, against Nice then Toulouse.

Sanogo could make his debut for the club on Saturday in their home match against Boulogne-sur-Mer.
