Bristol Rovers have snapped up striker Paul Heffernan on a one-month loan deal from Doncaster Rovers.

Heffernan, who spent the 2004/05 season at Bristol City, has struggled for regular football at Doncaster this term and recently scored once in four appearances on loan at Oldham Athletic.

Oldham had been keen to re-sign the 28-year-old, but the forward has opted for a move to League One rivals Rovers.

The Irishman is looking forward to his time with Paul Trollope's side and is keeping his options open regarding an extended loan spell at the Memorial Stadium.

"I discussed the deal at the back end of last week," Heffernan told the club's official website.

"I spoke to Lennie (Lawrence) and Paul and we discussed that when the window opened again I would come back down on loan for a month, and I am delighted now that I am down. Initially it is a month and we will see how it goes from there.

"I have been with Doncaster five years, but I am out of contract in the summer so it may be time to move on.

"I think I have plenty to offer Bristol Rovers. I have been sitting on the bench up at Doncaster for most of the season, so I want to get out and prove that I can still score goals at whatever level because you are soon forgotten about in this game.

"If it goes well for the club and for myself there is always an option to extend it for another month or for the rest of the season, so we will see how it goes."
