Accrington Stanley have signed defensive duo Sean Hessey and Jonathan Bateson after the pair impressed on trial.

Both players have put pen-to-paper on one-year contracts after doing enough to convince Stanley boss John Coleman they were worth permanent stays.

Hessey, 31, was released by Macclesfield Town at the end of the last campaign while Bateson, 20, joins after being let go by fellow League Two side Bradford City.

The signings come after the transfer embargo at Accrington was lifted at the weekend.

Both players are in contention to start the new campaign at the Crown Ground against Aldershot this Saturday.
