Barnsley have dipped into the transfer market to sign Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor on an initial month-long loan deal.

O'Connor has struggled with injuries during his Birmingham career and has been restricted to just 58 appearances since joining the club three years ago.

He missed much of last season with a hip problem and was handed a six-month contract, with the option of a further six months, over the summer.

The Scotland international subsequently started Birmingham's opening game of the Premier League season at Sunderland, but has now been allowed out on loan.

The 27-year-old will initially drop down to the Championship for a month, but there is an option for Barnsley to extend the deal.
