Sheffield United striker Darius Henderson has agreed to join Millwall for an undisclosed fee.

Skysports.com reported on Tuesday that Millwall were in talks with Henderson about staying in the Championship.

And the two clubs have today confirmed a move has been agreed, with Henderson to sign a two-year contract with the Lions on Friday, 1st July.

The 29-year-old forward had one year left on his contract at Bramall Lane and the Blades were keen to offload him to cut their wage bill after suffering relegation to League One.

Danny Wilson has taken over from Micky Adams this summer and the new Blades boss accepted that Henderson wants to carry on playing at a higher level.

"We think Millwall have got a good deal," he told United's official website.

Good targetman

"Darius is a very good targetman and we wish him all the best at his new club.

"Following relegation, we are aware that some players will want to move and Darius, who is in his late 20s, feels at this moment in time that it is very important to be playing in the Championship."

Henderson made a £2million move from Watford in the summer of 2008, signing a four-year deal at Bramall Lane.

But his three years there were blighted by injury and suspension, restricting him to 68 starts and 21 goals.

The former Reading and Gillingham frontman was unable to keep United up after returning from injury, scoring twice in eight games at the end of the season.

He has scored 77 goals in 202 league starts, making another 102 league appearances as a substitute.
