Portsmouth are understood to be preparing a summer move for Rennes striker Jimmy Briand.

The versatile 22-year-old would cost Pompey around 10million euros (£7.8million).

He is under contract at Stade Rennais until 2010 but looks set to leave the club in the near future after producing a number of eye-catching displays over the last two years.

He has managed six goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances this season and continues to be a regular member of the French national squad.

Along with Portsmouth, Italian giants Juventus and French duo Lens and St Etienne are also believed to be keen on acquiring the services of the promising forward.
