Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is weighing up an offer to sign Darren Byfield on a free transfer.

Byfield has been released by Bristol City after scoring eight goals in 33 Championship appearances for the club last season.

Following Doncaster's promotion to the second tier, O'Driscoll is keen to sign players with Championship experience and has registered his interest in Byfield.

"The way it works is you get a CV sent on an email or fax and I've got hundreds of them and so has every manager in the Championship and Darren was one of those on a free transfer who has played in the Championship," said O'Driscoll.

"So you do what you have to do and speak to the agent and assess the situation.

"At this minute in time he is talking to various clubs and is available and that's as far as we've got."

Byfield has also been linked with Swansea City and Leeds United as the 31-year-old continues his search for a new club.
