Watford have handed a trial to former Aston Villa and Reading defender Ulises De la Cruz.

The Ecuador international is looking for a new club after being released by Reading at the end of last season.

De la Cruz played 45 minutes of Watford's 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday and Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd was suitably impressed by the 34-year-old.

Good pedigree

"Regarding new signings, I've got a couple of things in the pipeline, but that's just where they are at the moment. Nothing concrete is in place yet.

"We had Ulises De la Cruz playing with us today on trial. He's here for a couple of weeks and he's done well so far. He's got a good pedigree with around 90 international caps for Ecuador."
