Reading have confirmed the release of Sam Sodje at the end of the defender's contract.

Sodje joined the Royals from Brentford three years ago, but he made just eight appearances during his time at the Madejski Stadium.

The centre-half undertook loan spells at West Brom, Charlton and Watford before finishing the season at Leeds United.

Leeds have been linked with a permanent move for the 30-year-old, who featured as the League One club lost to Millwall in the play-off semi-finals.

Royals director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website: "I would like to wish Sam all the best for the future.

"He has not been able to play as many games as he would have liked for us, but he now has the opportunity to find himself a new home in the game and good luck to him."
