Valencia: Linked with United and Real
Sky Sports News understands Wigan have received bids in excess of £16million from Manchester United and Real Madrid for Antonio Valencia.
The Ecuadorian winger has long been linked with the two European giants and it is now reported that the pair have tabled offers.
United are searching for creativity after big-money signing Nani has failed to live up to expectations and Valencia is said to have impressed boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Real are desperate to overthrow Spanish and continental champions Barcelona and the 23-year-old was thought to be close to a move in the winter transfer window.
A switch failed to materialise, but it is now understood that newly-elected president Florentino Perez, who has pledged a return to the dazzling days of star signings from his first spell at the Bernabeu, is ready to test Wigan's resolve.
Valencia joined Wigan in 2006 in a loan move from Recreativo de Huelva and the deal was made permanent in January 2008.
The Latics are currently without a manager following Steve Bruce's move to Sunderland, but Roberto Martinez is expected to be unveiled as successor on Wednesday.

I think Valencia would be an excelent signing,Giggs old now and Nani still developing.Camacho would fill a massive hole in the middle and so would Veloso. If the middle of the park was better then the forwards would do better.

We need a minor rebuilding this summer and I expect a few new comers starting with Valencia. I would say we sell Ronaldo for around 85M or so. We can use cash to rebuild the team. We should keep Nani as well as I do not think we can afford to buy 2 new wingers in this economy. Plus you can't seriously expect Giggs to play every game now. I don't know why everyone thinks he should leave. It's newspaper saying that. I watch almost every game and to be honest I don't think Nani has been given a good amount of game to shine. With Ronaldo going I think it's time for him to step up. I also agree with comment that Nani shot is some what better or about the same as Ronaldo from long range. The only different is that he doesn't step-over or do fancy flicks as much which could be a plus. Park should stay also if Ronaldo leaves. Wellbeck could also play there. The area that we think we are a little bit light weight is actually central midfield. We are fine in EPL without established defensive midfielder but to conquer Europe once again I think we need one or two player in that position. Sadly all of the best one are already at big clubs. But if we do sell Ronaldo to Real we can always turn that to our benefit. I always thought Lassana Diarra a very competent defensive midfielder. We can even include Mahamadu Diarra who is very good defensive midfielder as well, providing that he fully recovered from his knee. We don't need someone to accompany Hargreaves to his knee's doctor appointments. We are very good in the defense and have someone who can step up in all the slots. The next place to look into is the front. I believe Tevez will leave. So, we will have only 2 established center forwards. Despite Campbell departure, we still have Marcheda and Welbeck as understudy and Manucho is also returning. If we get good cash from Ronaldo I think we should try to get Aguero Kun or Benzema, if not both.

Personally i hope we get valencia and rooney comes off the wing and plays CF. I like Tevez because of how hard he works and what he does for the team but what is all this hype about?... he hasn't played that amazingly. Rooney would do a better job at CF and is a better player. We need balance... and dare i say... don't need tevez as much as everybody says. Valencia is absolutely class... i can't believe people think otherwise. Why on earth would real madrid and united be trying to sign him if he wasn't.

Valencia is a good player and would improve our options down the right flank considering Ronaldo is not playing wide as he used to opting to player more centrally. But still I don't think Valencia is a must and not what United really need. If we buy him than great but he should just be a backup signing and a backup valued at 17 million isn't worth buying. Nani hasn't been given a decent run this year and considering we've got Tosic also this would be a luxury signing. Also Welbeck has put in some very promising performances down both flanks. United should go for a couple of players who could really make a difference for us next year, possibly a clinical striker if Tevez ends up leaving and an all rounder midfielder.

Valencia is a class player but scores nowhere near as many goals as Ronaldo, Wigan should keep Valencia so that he can develop into an even better first team regular.

Sell Ronaldo he has had enough at Man Utd get Antonio Valencia in maybe not as good technically but will work harder tackle back and be more creative than greedy Ronaldo. He will only make us stronger!

I have no problem with the signing of valencia because he has proved that he can match up against the bigger clubs and playing with in a big club as Man U he can only get better. As far as Nani goes i hope SAF doesn't sell him because i don't think he has been given a fair run in the first eleven. He has huge potential, he's quick, he changes directions very quickly and he has a rocket of a shot even better than Ronaldo's shot imo. I think we should stick to our 4-4-2 formation If we get Valencia and let Rooney play more as a cf.

Yes, i hope we sign Valencia, hes class, i also hope we signTevez permanently, ditch Nani and Ronaldo for around 90 million for the pouting portuguese pair, personally im sick of their attitudes, yes they both possess undoubted quality but they both seem to think theyre bigger than United, id also like to see a top quality youngster or two arrive.

The comment about Fletcher makes me laugh ¿ two completely different players in the team to do completely different jobs. 10 Valencia¿s would get relegated without any shadow of a doubt. Successful teams need the right balance and Fletcher is amongst the best at what he does.

Makes me laugh to hear some of these man u comments. He's not good enough for us, we need superstars, he only looks good because he plays for a small club. Look at some of your players and compare them to Valencia. Can Fletcher, Park, Nani, Scholes, and to fair now Giggs, be said to be better than him? How can you get superstars if you don't give them the chance at the big time? As for a big fish inn a little pond scenario. Look at Tevez at West ham. Doing Ok for you isn't he? What about Rooney at Everton. I think he's lived up to expectations? Ferdinand from Leeds? Van der sar from Fulham? Should I go on? Yeah he's a very good player (quick, skilful and more importantly a hard worker) and I believe he will shine on the big stage. I say good luck to him as he's been nothing but a true professional with us and deserves a bit of the limelight now.

Okay I'm a big fan of Antonio Valencia, the pace, strength, skill and creativity. And he would be a good addition to our squad, however i think he'll bring more selction problems than solutions. He doesn't better Man U we remain as good as we are. It's the same as signing Kaka when we have Rooney. We don't need a right footed right sided winger. what we need is a left or both footed left or left and right winger. Such as Robben. We also need a midfield playmaker who is going to run our midfield with precision. As a world Class team we need a world class midfielder like Iniesta n not another winger. nani has the potential to be better than Ronaldo so lets give him a chance. We should be looking at Camacho,Hamsik,Iniesta, Hleb, Robben, Silva and Malouda. The last person we need is Ribery

Luis has been one of the best players to ever wear a Wigan shirt, and I will be gutted to see him leave. But that is football I guess, we do all the hard work in scouting him out of nowhere, coaching him to become recognised as one of the best in the world, then money bags like you lot come poaching. Luis is a good lad, quiet, shy, modest, very very fast, very strong and an amazing eye for a pass. Whoever gets him, enjoy! I have!

United have enough good players but I feel we need a few world class players across the middle. Only truly world class player is Ronaldo and none of us is positive he'll stay or if SAF will tire of his ways. We need to purchase a Ribery or Silva in order to compete against teams with stronger midfields, like Chelsea, Liverpool or Barcelona. Can Valencia offer United that? I'm not sure.

Warren Oates says...
Valencia is a brilliant player who will only get better if he is signed by Man Utd just like Ronaldo did. I believe that he will add much needed quality to the middle of midfield which is where I think is his best position, although he has been a fantastic on the wing. I have to say that Nani is a very good player that has taken a while to settle but everyone has seen his talent. The coaches will work more with him so he can show it on a more consistant basis. To the people who say Valencia is not good enough for Utd I say this. If Darren Fletcher, who is just a squad player can make the first 11 then surely Valencia can afterall it's easy to see that Valencia is a million times better. I hope Valencia wears red next season he will be amazing for us.

He is a decent player and would stand out at any other club than the top four. I only want the best players for manchester united and thats why i think thy should try and sign Ribery and an out and out centre forwad.

Ben Hudson (Manchester United fan) says...
Ok valencia is a good player, but not man utd quality, he only stands out because hes playing for a smaller club. uniteds focus should be on keepng tevez, ronaldo and signing a decent right back and maybe a classy centre mid! if they really want to sign a left sided player why not move for David silva who would be only be ¿20 m .... modest fee for a future star and someone who is sure to leave this summer.

Dan Kane (Manchester United fan) says...
valenica is a decent player but no where near good enough for man utd. He is heavily one footed and will always try to get the ball on his right foot rather then using his left. id rather have nani than him because hes more skilful, faster and younger. give nani this season to impress then if not they look elsewhere

I believe this could potentially be a fantastic signing. Ronaldo and Valencia on the wings with Rooney through the middle! Still need an out and out striker though! Never replaced van nistelrooy!
