Scotland: Wanted by Burnley
Burnley have made an approach for Jason Scotland, but our valuation is miles apart
Swansea on Burnley's Scotland bid
Quotes of the week
Swansea City have confirmed Burnley have tabled an offer for Trinidad & Tobago international striker Jason Scotland.
The Clarets are currently scouting for reinforcements after winning promotion to the Premier League with a play-off final victory over Sheffield United.
Burnley boss Owen Coyle has indentified Swansea's free-scoring striker as a player who could help them retain their top-flight status, however, their bid falls well short of what The Swans' are seeking.
Chairman Huw Jenkins says Burnley's bid is 'miles apart' from the valuation and that the 30-year-old marksman will not be leaving the Liberty Stadium on the cheap.
"Burnley have made an approach for Jason Scotland, but our valuation for a player who has finished as our top scorer for the last two seasons is miles apart," he told the club's official website.
"We value Jason very highly; after all he has scored 53 goals in the last two seasons for us. I think everyone in football is well aware now that we do not need to sell anyone.
"We certainly won't let any player go for below what we think they are worth; whether that's Jason Scotland or anyone else for that matter."
Meanwhile, Scotland's agent, Mike Berry, says Burnley's bid is in excess of £1million and that his client is keen at trying his hand at Premier League football.
Berry claims negotiations between the clubs are ongoing and that Wigan Athletic are also interested in acquiring the former St Johnstone hit-man.
"Jason would like Swansea to seriously consider the bid because he has aspirations to play in the Premier League," stated Berry.
"He has sweated blood for Swansea in the last few years and hopefully the fans have enjoyed his performances.
"But Jason has turned 30, he wants to play at the highest level and play in the Premier League and this is an opportunity for him to play at the top - and I think everyone at Swansea would agree he has earned the right to do so.
"Negotiations are still ongoing, but it is a substantial bid. I believe the bid from Burnley is in excess of £1m. But Wigan are very interested so it will be interesting.
"Jason, though, is a Swansea City player with one year left on his contract so any deal - whichever club he goes to - has got to be right for Swansea."
