AC Milan have admitted they are interested in signing Lukas Podolski, but they would need to sell Klaas-Jan Huntelaar first.

The Italian giants have been impressed by the 25-year-old's performances with Germany at the World Cup, where he scored twice and formed an excellent partnership with Miroslav Klose on their run to the semi-finals.

Podolski has struggled at club level in the Bundesliga, scoring just 13 goals in 98 games following a move to Bayern Munich in 2006, and his subsequent return to former club Cologne last season.

Huntelaar has failed to make an impression since leaving Ajax for Real Madrid in 2009 and then joining Milan just six months later.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani conceded that they had looked at Podolski due to his versatility, but it depended on whether Dutch international Huntelaar would move to the Premier League.

"Podolski will arrive only if one condition is met and that is the transfer of Huntelaar to the (English) Premier League, which would then open a few paths from a financial standpoint." Galliani told Sky Sport 24.

Gattuso future

Another Milan player who is considering his future is midfielder Gennaro Gattuso, who has stated that he wants first team football if he is to stay with the club he joined in 2001.

The 32-year-old is an iconic figure for the Rossoneri, but has seen his starting opportunities become more limited as he comes towards the end of his career.

"Gattuso is a gladiator and always wants to win," said Gattuso's agent Andrea D'Amico to Sportitalia.

"Last year was a difficult one for him because of a serious injury and he had to start over.

"He wants to understand the type of project that Milan and the new coach will have. He always wants to play.

"Considering that last season he started on the bench, he wants to understand what his role will be in Milan's new project.

"Once he knows, he will make a decision. Gattuso is very much appreciated all over the world."
