Napoli have sacked Roberto Donadoni and replaced him with former Sampdoria coach Walter Mazzarri.
Donadoni's future at Napoli has been the subject of intense speculation for the last few days after a poor run of form.
Sunday's defeat to Roma was the last straw for the Napoli board and they have moved quickly to axe the former Italy coach and bring in Mazzarri as his replacement.
Napoli currently sit in 15th spot in Serie A and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to transform their fortunes.
Mazzarri, who left Sampdoria in the summer, is believed to have agreed a deal until 2011 with Napoli.
A club statement read: "Napoli announce they have released Roberto Donadoni from the role of head coach and appointed in his place Walter Mazzarri.
"The club want to thank Donadoni for the work done in these months and wish him the best of luck for the future."
Mazzarri's first match in charge will be against Bologna on 18th October.
