Vernon being put through his paces
One the UK's top British Cross Country Champions, Andy Vernon launched a new specialist Running School Centre at the Esporta Riverside Health & Racquets Club Northwood.
During the launch event, Andy's running biomechanics, movement patterns and running style was analysed by one of the UK's leading running technique coaches and founder of the Running School Mike Antoniades.
After the video analysis session with Mike, Andy Vernon commented on the elite level module saying that: "The Running School has improved my running efficiency by improving some technical aspects of my running style. I hope the Running School training programme will help me achieve better race times on the track and for cross country distances and help me avoid injuries in the future."
Antoniades, who has worked with clients including teams and athletes from Chelsea FC, Chelsea Academy, Arsenal, Fulham FC, Blackburn, Crystal Palace, QPR and West Ham - was pleased to have worked with Vernon and backs him to improve on his European Cross Country Championship bronze medal.
"We are delighted that Andy has launched our second Running School Centre at Riverside Health & Racquets Club Northwood," said Antoniades.
"There is no question that Andy is one of Britain's most exciting and brightest talents and Andy has made an impressive transition from junior to the senior ranks, as his Gold medal at the 2008 Aviva Olympic 5000m trials shows. Andy has backed this up by a fine cross country season, where he led home the Great Britain U23 team at the European Cross Country Championships, winning a bronze individual medal.
"We believe our specialist Running School speed programmes will be of huge benefit to all elite athletes like Andy, but also to other recreational athletes.
"Most of us haven't been taught the correct way to run, but have adopted a running style that our body has got used to, irrespective of whether it is efficient or not. Runners come in all shapes and sizes and all ages. I have spent years analysing people's running technique and helping them run more efficiently. The Running School has identified a number of similar running characteristics with recreational runners and have placed them into different categories."
The Running School has also been a huge success with parents and their kids and in particular within some academic schools where the Running School kids module is being used as part of the weekly school sports curriculum to improve co-ordination levels, child fitness and concentration levels in class.
