Wiggins: third individual pursuit world title

Great Britain's Bradley Wiggins successfully defended his individual pursuit title at the World Track Championships on Wednesday.

Wiggins clocked four minutes 18.519 seconds over the 4,000 metres to beat Dutchman Jenning Huizenga (4:23.474) in the final.

The result was further confirmation of the Londoner's dominance of the event, in which he has now won the world title three times and is the reigning Olympic champion.

"I'm just pleased I got the job done," Wiggins said. "You just try to keep your emotions aside to do the job.

"The main thing for me is to win regardless of the time."

Russia's Alexei Markov took the bronze medal.
